Thing 10 - Technology Blogging

Okay. I'm feeling the pressure. I'm way behind on my 23 Things and I've got to catch up. Not to mention I'm going on vacation soon (woohoo!). So these posts will either come fast & furious, or it'll have to wait until I return.

After much wringing of hands, I've decided that this post will be about technology in general (hope that's okay). I'm a techie-wannabe. I seldom have the latest and greatest gadgets when they first come out, but the things I do use, I enjoy thoroughly. Take Tivo for example. I was one of the first to own it, and now can't live without it, even though I know there are other products offering similar services. I dabble in gaming (Guitar Hero III for PS2 for hubby turned out to be one of my favorite games), but I don't have a Wii. I have a PDA type phone, but I don't use all the bells and whistles. We have a GPS, and it's thwarted many an argument on roadtrips, but it has also steered us wrong. I buy and sell on eBay and I recently started a Gardening Blog. I recognize the potential of many technological improvements, I appreciate them, but I don't necessarily rush to adopt them.

I checked out the New York Times Technology Blog, and there were several articles of interest to me--from Google's endeavors to map the ocean to the new Nikon camera with an increased range. But I don't think I'll be checking back in anytime soon, simply because of a lack of time.

Technology can be a wonderful thing for libraries--I've seen Flickr, delicious, RSS, and more used with great success by libraries big and small. I'm glad OCL has a Trendspotters Committee to keep an eye on these things, and I'm grateful for my colleagues who are constantly showing me new ways to keep up with the times.
