Thing 18 - Web Apps

I've used Google Docs to collaborate at work and also to help out patrons in a pinch. It works especially well for sharing meeting minutes because multiple people can make changes before the final version is approved. It's very helpful to collaborate on committee work when people are working at different branches. I have also used Google Docs to help a customer save a resume when the computer's floppy drive wasn't working.


It's great for sharing travel itineraries too, which are usually a work in progress for me.


I'm intrigued about the additional features that Zoho offers, both in Writer and in the other free software. I've used Basecamp for project planning in the past, which was free, easy, and helpful. The interface of Zoho Projects wasn't as user-friendly for me, but that could just be a personal bias.

In general, I'm a big fan of open source software, and I'm glad to have learned about one that was unfamiliar to me (Zoho). This can be very helpful for customers...might even be a good Web 2.0 computer class topic....hmmm.
