Thing 19 - Web 2.0 Awards

Create a blog post about a Web 2.0 Award winner that you would like to use and
why.

I actually surprised myself with this exercise. Initially, I thought I was totally out of the Web 2.0 loop, but I felt pretty good when I recognized a lot of websites on the list--Pandora, Color Blender, LinkedIn, LibraryThing, Google Docs, Writeboard, Campfire, Craigslist, 43Things, Google Maps, Backpack, Flickr, Yahoo Answers, Zillow, Etsy, Facebook, digg, del.icio.us, Stumbleupon, iGoogle, Farecast, Kayak, RealTravel, YouTube; and now, thanks to this challenge, Techorati, Bloglines, and Zoho. That doesn't mean that I use them all. Probably the ones in purple are "regulars," while the others I use only occasionally.

As far as an award winner that I'd like to use, I wish I could say Twitter, because I like the idea of being able to give short updates to my inner circle about daily happenings (I loathe the phone), but at the same time something about being constantly "on" gives me the willies. I was curious about ParkingSearch, but when I entered "New York, NY," (a very popular market) the majority of the leads seemed like commercial parking garages that ask the user to "call for rates" rather than individuals looking to rent spaces. It's a neat concept though.

I checked out the carbon calculator on BeGreenNow, and even though I drive a hybrid, eat organic when I can, and live somewhat sustainably, I still am responsible for a whopping 16.81 Metric Tons of CO2 emissions. It's all that darn travel that I enjoy.

I think the one Web 2.0 Award Winning site that I'd like to use more often is Flickr. Family and friends keep asking to see travel photos, and since I don't see myself organizing scrapbooks anytime soon, Flickr just might be the tool.
